Course Overview
This comprehensive Fit for Duty Training Course explores the essential physical, mental, and emotional conditions employees must meet to safely and effectively perform their job duties. It also outlines the proactive steps organizations can take to support their teams in maintaining workplace readiness and overall wellness. Supervisors will learn how to identify early warning signs of fitness issues and understand the appropriate protocols for managing unfit employees. Meanwhile, employees will gain practical strategies for maintaining their own well-being, using available support systems, and minimizing health or safety risks on the job.
The course is structured into four informative chapters:
- Chapter 1: Understanding the Concept of Being “Fit For Duty”
- Chapter 2: Roles and Responsibilities of Employers and Employees
- Chapter 3: Best Practices and Standard Operating Procedures
- Chapter 4: Return-to-Work Guidelines and Support Strategies
By the end of the course, participants will be better equipped to foster a culture of safety, accountability, and wellness.

- Understand the core tenets of being fit for duty
- Recognize how an employee, or yourself, can be unfit for duty
- List the common impairments that can lead to dangerous workplace situations
- Instill the procedures you can take as a manager or supervisor to ensure your employees remain fit for duty
- Interpret the indications of an unfit employee, and how to get them back on track
- Learn what procedures you can adopt to ensure fitness in your workforce, and
- Establish the framework for a back-to-work program
This course takes approximately 40 minutes to complete
A passing grade of 80% or higher required. Up to 3 attempts are provided.
