Hazmat: General Awareness
This course familiarizes learners with the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR) to help them recognize and identify hazardous materials and provides the general awareness training requirements of 49 CFR 172.704(a)(1).
Course Overview
This course is designed specifically for hazmat employees - that is, anyone who is employed by a hazmat employer and directly affects hazmat transportation safety. This course will familiarize learners with the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR) to help them work safely around hazmat. This course satisfies the General Awareness training requirement 49 CFR §172.704(a)(1).
Upon successful completion of this course, learners will be able to:
- Identify the required training all hazmat employees must receive
- Determine if a material is a hazmat and verify its hazard classification using the Hazardous Materials Regulations
- Recognize and identify hazmat through the use of shipping papers, markings, labels, and placards
