Entry-Level Driver Training: Identification and Diagnosis of Malfunctions
Course Overview
This unit must teach driver-trainees to identify major combination vehicle systems. The goal is to explain their function and how to check all key vehicle systems, (e.g., engine, engine exhaust auxiliary systems, brakes, drive train, coupling systems, and suspension) to ensure their safe operation. Driver-trainees must be provided with a detailed description of each system, its importance to safe and efficient operation, and what is needed to keep the system in good operating condition.
As with any vehicle, a tractor-trailer is made up of many parts. Though these parts have individual jobs or functions, they work together to effectively and efficiently operate the tractor-trailer. This course is designed to present learners with a general understanding of the basics of vehicle construction and vehicle systems as well as the importance of diagnosing and reporting vehicle malfunctions to maintain a safe vehicle.
