Why the Heck Do I Need a Daily Journal?
Course Overview
This training fits very well with establishing a due diligence defense as well as being effective in moving forward with any coaching or disciplinary concerns. A daily journal could also be referred to as a notebook or daily logbook, however, we will simply refer to it as a daily journal in this training. A journal is important because if you do not have anything to show that you have tried to be duly diligent in terms of occupational health and safety law, you would not likely be able to PROVE that you were. Taking good notes is essential to learn and you must be dedicated to taking them. There will be many occasions that having a record of conversations, meetings, or training seminars will be crucial for your success as a supervisor. Of course, not absolutely everything must be documented, but certain things are a must, such as:
- Coaching meetings
- Work assignments are given and what safety precautions should be taken
- Important dates
- Disciplinary discussions
- Supervisory group and safety meetings
- Employee concerns that you must follow-up on, especially safety concerns
